WHY THE IMAGE OF GOD?


Gen 126 And God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

What is image? According to oxford advanced learner’s dictionary define image as a mental picture that you have of what somebody or something is like or look like. It could also mean resemblance; that is looking similar or alike.

For better understanding when a man and his wife comes together to produce a child, the child produced automatically mirror the image of is parent. Science believed that a child take to the resemblance of the most dominant gene but that does not mean the child will not have anything in common with the both parent.  The child is a photocopier image of both the father and the mother. The character traits of the parent also formed in the child as he/she grows up. That is why a child we speak or do things exactly like his father or her mother.

For instance when you look at Segun Awolowo who do you see? Of course you will definitely see the image of his father.

When you look at yourself in the mirror who do you see? You will definitely see the image of your father or mother or both of them in you.

Back to our topic: WHY THE IMAGE OF GOD?

Though you are the image of your parent but there is someone who created your parent and every living in his image.

That is GOD

Why will God created you in his likeness?

 Why not animals or tree or things?

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Have you ever ask yourself why?

You may have your own answer but the correct answer is recorded in Gen 126b and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

You are not here to be a nonentity?

You are not here to be a wonderers?

You are not here to be a mistake identity?

You are not here to be useless?

You are not here to be a wasted investment?

You are not here only to dine and wine?

You are not here only to live and die?

You are here to replicate God in His image:

To reason like Him,

To see like Him,

To talk like Him,

To behave like Him,

And to act like Him.

The son of a lion must be a lion. When the son of a lion is behaving like the son of goat there is a missing link.

You are here to have DOMINION?
